Dazzling Show by Designer

The inaugural Malaysia Fashion Week (MFW) 2014,which was held from Oct 17 to 22,saw the participation of about 410 exhibitors from over 25 countries and more than 300 trade buyers in attendance. It was a collaborative effort between Malaysia External Trade Development Corporation (Matrade) and fashion event organiser Stylo International with support from the Ministry of International Trade and Industry. Malaysia’s global shoe couturier Datuk Jimmy Choo was the honorary advisor for the event. It marked the first trade fashion week in Malaysia which ran concurrently with Matrade’s annual national trade fair, International Trade Malaysia (Intrade). The international event saw Malaysian and foreign fashion distributors in Kuala Lumpur exhibiting at Facit (fashion, art, cosmetics, interiors and textile), a lifestyle trade fair component within Intrade to support and showcase fashion and related industries. Datuk Dr Wong Lai Sum, CEO of Matrade and chairman of MFW, says the event’s purpose is to position Malaysia as “the region’s number one destination for leading fashion brands, accessories, textiles and lifestyle products”. There was a flurry of activities over the six days including an opening gala dinner and fashion show with 100 models, 12 trade fashion shows with the participation of 61 designers from 15 countries and four awards handed out to fashion trendsetters. The final two days of MFWs 12 fashion shows took place on the runways of Black Cube and White Cube at Menara Matrade, while the public Fashion Week Sale on the final day of MFW featured a variety of high quality fashion and lifestyle products.
